On Sunday I went on my way to see the mountain hares, but I never made it. The road was fine to start with, but then there was some snow on the road. I thought it would be fine, but I misjudged the height from the chassis to the ground (or rather the snow) and the solidness of the snow in the middle of the road. My Clio ended up completely stuck with the chassis on a solid mass of icy snow.
I tried not to panic and hoped for some sort of miracle. No miracle, no phone signal and no houses for miles, so I started using a metal walking stick to hack at the ice underneath the car (trying to avoid damaging any vital parts). After a lot of hacking and sweating I finally managed to get the car moving again in reverse. Can’t tell you how relieved I was that the car was driving again and no damage was done. At the same time I felt stupid for getting myself in that situation. Later on I noticed a jeep coming from the opposite direction, if I hadn't managed by myself I would probably have had some help.
So I didn’t make it to the hares, but on the way back there were some very obliging red grouse posing for the camera. Maybe they knew I needed some cheering up.
