A visit to the gannet colony at Troup Head, Aberdeenshire. It is always a spectacle to see the busy colony, although there are definitely less birds this year than in previous years. The breeding season seems to have started later as well. There were a few sitting on eggs, but some were still mating. When one of the birds returns to the nest the greeting ritual is fascinating to see. By the end of the afternoon when the sun came around and hit the cliff, the light was gorgeous. I watched the gannets for many hours and still found it hard to tear myself away from it.
