Blog Discontinued

June 19, 2015  •  Leave a Comment
There are not enough hours in the day to keep up with all the media, so I've decided not to continue with this blog. If you are interested, you can follow my photography activity on Facebook (click on "Read the full post" to obtain the link).

Moving Pictures

November 07, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
In the past few weeks I've been having fun photographing autumn colours. Not landscapes, because I don't have the patience for that. I love taking photos with a longer lens, using long exposures and moving the camera while the shutter is open. You can create such amazing effects depending on the movement and different colours. It often doesn't look...

Start of the Dolphin Season

June 29, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
For me the dolphin season started quite late this year. I went to Chanonry Point once in April and then I didn't go until the second half of May. The best day so far (and I am writing this a the end of June) was 24th May. The dolphins were brilliant that day. There was so much activity. Not a lot of big breaches, but lots of lower jumps and dolphin...

Spring update

May 30, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
I haven't been keeping my blog updated at all in the last few months. There's a lot to catching up to do, so here is a summary of some of the wildlife trips. Up until may I spent a lot of time in the forest with the squirrels. Some days they were about for a long time, but other days they hardly showed at all. By the time the trees turned green th...

Photogenic Hares

April 25, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
In the last few months I have been photographing mountain hares a few times. These animals are so photogenic. No matter what they do, they always look comical, especially when they are yawning. It was lovely to see them in the snow and on level ground it provided a good opportunity to capture them with just snow in the background and no distraction...

Photography for a rainy day

February 02, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
I had planned to see the mountain hares today, but it turned out much wetter and windier than I anticipated. I decided to do some more comfortable wildlife photography instead: red deer. When photographing red deer most of the time your car is your best hide, so if it gets too wet, you just shut your window. There was the occasional ray of sunshine...

Meet Miss Messy

February 01, 2014  •  Leave a Comment
I had a lovely morning in the forest with the squirrels. Compared to a couple of weeks ago the light is improving fast now. Five squirrels turned up, although not all of them hung about long. There was one female and she had muddy paws and dirt on her face, so I named her Miss Messy. A few of the other squirrels are easily recognised. One of them h...

Not so smart

December 30, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
On Sunday I went on my way to see the mountain hares, but I never made it. The road was fine to start with, but then there was some snow on the road. I thought it would be fine, but I misjudged the height from the chassis to the ground (or rather the snow) and the solidness of the snow in the middle of the road. My Clio ended up completely stuck wi...

Jackpot

December 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
After recovering from a Christmas cold I went to see the squirrels at the end of the week. I’m back at my old squirrel place now. There was so much less light than I had anticipated in the new place that I found. In October the light had already completely disappeared. So I went back to the patch of forest where I have always been. In a few weeks t...

New website provider

November 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
It has been hard work in the last two weeks, but I managed to rebuild my website with a new provider that is more suitable for photography. I didn't want to lose my previous blog and therefore I have copied the items I had previously posted. They will all appear with a new publication date, but in the post I have noted the date it was previously po...

Trip to Mull

November 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
First published: 29-Oct-2013 I had a lovely time on Mull last week with friends. Otters and eagles every day. Here are a couple of otter photos. We had some wonderful close encounters, but unfortunately the light was too low for great quality photos. Here are some anyway. The one rolling in the net is cropped quite a bit.

Squirrel Time!

November 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
First published: 21-Sep-2013 It's squirrel time again. I found a different spot with a high squirrel probability and good potential for photography, lots of natural features where they can pose for the camera. I put a peanut feeder up about two weeks ago and scattered... hazelnuts a few times since. This was the first time I went there to sit and...

More babies

November 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
First published: 29-Aug-2013 Usually you are quite happy to get one newborn calf in the frame (with its face anyway). Sunday there were three newborn calves about (born within the last few weeks) and they all seemed pretty eager to get their photo taken. These are my favourites. They even did synchronized surfacing for us!

Babies

November 29, 2013  •  Leave a Comment
First published: 13-Aug-2013 Baby dolphins are so cute. Here you can see the difference between a newborn calf (Zephyr's calf on the left) and a 1 year old calf (Rainbow's calf on the right). How can you not go 'aaww' when you see these wee ones! I think 'Speedy' is an appropriate name for Zephyr's calf, because it was so fast we were wondering wh...
